According to him, in 1545 Pedro Nunes (already royal cosmographer) ordered the masters of nautical charts to shorten charts of navigation to India intended for sale. The charts issued by the Casa da India to pilots in the royal service were not shortened and had to be returned containing the newly‐made observations.
