- When the yellow-colored alumina was placed in vacuo to remove carbon disulfide, the yellow color would disappear before the odor of carbon disulfide was gone.
- Spectra of carbon disulfide show8 two groups of bands at 330–390 nm and 290–330 nm. Since these are of weak intensity because of the low solubility of carbon disulfide in water, these bands tend to cancel since the same solvent was used in the solvent cell of the double beam spectrometer.

- Only glass-covered stirring bars were used after it was discovered that varying degrees of colors were developed when teflon-coated bars were used in early experiments. Since the iron bar became dark, it is evident that diffusion through the teflon and subsequent reaction was occurring.
