  • Globalisation appeared first in 1961: see Webster's Third New International Dictionary of the English Language Merriam Springfield, MA 1961 Academically, the term first entered the social sciences in the 1980s, pioneered by Roland Robertson and Anthony Giddens. Malcolm Waters calls both the fathers of globalisation; see Malcolm Waters, Globalisation (London: Routledge, 1995).
