- The authentic samples of methyl 2, 3, 4, 6-tetra-0-acetyl-α--galacto-furanoside and its β-anomer were prepared from methyl α- and β--galactofuranoside by acetylation (pyridine-acetic anhydride, rt), respectively. Methyl α- and β--galactofuranoside were prepared from -galactose by the procedures described by Augestad and Berner10, followed by chromatography on a column of silica gel with 1:10 methanol-chloroform.
