  • Tzvi RAZ is a member of the Software Engineering Process Group at the IBM ASD Software Development Laboratory in Westlake, Texas. He holds a B.Sc. (1977) from the Technion—Israel Institute of Technology; a M.A.Sc. (1979) from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. (1982) from the University of Missouri, all in Industrial and Management Engineering. During 1982-1989 he was on the faculty of the University of Iowa, and in 1989-1990 he taught at Ben Gurion University. His papers on inspection planning have appeared in IIE Transactions, The Journal of Quality Technology, IJPR, Quality Engineering, and Computers and Industrial Engineering. Dr Raz also edited a book, Design of Inspection Systems, published by Quality Press in 1990.
  • SHAUL P. LADANY is a Professor at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Ben Gurion University, Israel. He holds a B.Sc. (1960) and a M.Sc. (1961) in Mechanical Engineering from the Technion in Haifa, a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (1964) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration and Industrial Engineering (1968) from Columbia University. While away from Israel, he has held many visiting positions, at Georgia Institute of Technology, Columbia University, City University of New York, Temple University, Rutgers, University of Cape Town and at the International Institute of Management in Berlin.
  • He has published four books and 60 articles in leading Management Science journals on various applied topics ranging from quality control to inventory control. He also owns eight US patents.
  • As a hobby, Dr Ladany is an amateur race-walker. He participated in the Mexico (1968) and Munich (1972) Olympic Games, won the 100 km World Championship, set the still unbroken 50 mile World record, and won national championships in the USA, Belgium, South Africa, Switzerland, and Israel. He is still active and competing. His hobby led him to be one of the pioneers to apply operations research to sports activities.
