See subchapters on landfill emissions in the Mercury Task Force Report, Volume 3, Chapter 3; available at http://www.state.nj.us/dep/dsr/mercurytaskforce.htm The New Jersey Mercury Task Force reviewed emissions data from a number of New Jersey landfills. It found that both gaseous and aqueous releases of total mercury from landfills are very low, suggesting that emissions from broken bulbs and other mercury-containing wastes are minimized by application of daily cover and subsequent additional covering by soil and waste.
