Praha Milan Machovec compared Masaryk's and Pekar's 'relatives in Czech history' based on the assumption that both thinkers were in fact philosophers of history. In his opinion the 'relatives' of Masaryk (Hus, Chelclcký, Komenský, Dobrovský, Palactý, Havlicek-Borovstý) contributed more to the moral and intellectual development of mankind than the 'relatives' of Pekaf. Machovec enumerates Saint Venceslaus, 'problematic Kristian' (author of one of the eldest Czech chronicles, the originality of that work is questionable), Saint Jan Nepomucen, Wallenstein, the aristocrat family Cernih, Vavak-simply the objects of Pekaf's historical interest. • Kotakowski , Leszek . 2000 . Gtowne nurty marksizmu [Main Trends of Marxism] Vol. 3 , 111 – 26 . Poznan It is still questionable if and to what extent are we allowed to use the terms 'Marxist' and 'Stalinist' while referring to intellectual or cultural phenomena of the Stalinist period. Georg G. Iggers points at differences between 'Western Marxism' and the official Marxist philosophy of the international Communist parties. On the other hand, Leszek Kotakowski claims that Stalinism is a form of Marxism. I do follow this last path and use 'Stalinist' as an equivalent of 'Marxist'. See: Georg G. Iggers, Historiography in the Twentieth Century. From Scientific Objectivity to the Postmodern Challenge, Hanover-London, 1997, p. 78n

  • The case of Julius Fuclk, Stalinist and literary critic, is one of the most fascinating in the history of Czech literary mystifications. During his imprisonment and thanks to people connected with anti-Nazi movement, he was able to write a book. The manuscript was smuggled out and published in 1945. Since then there have been over 30 editions of Reportai, psaná na opratce [Report from the Gallows] not taking into account an immense number of translations. Fucík describes himself as a strong man immune from every temptation of cooperation with the Germans. It seems worth mentioning that every edition of his book overlooked one short passage, when he confessed to having tried to speak with the Germans but assured that he had done everything in order to avoid the breakdown of the whole organisation. The first full edition of Report was published in 1995 (Julius Fucík, Reportaz, psaná na oprátce. Prvni uplné, Miete a komentované vydáni, edited by Frantisek Janacek, Praha, 1995).
