Nick Norgan Award
Dr Nicholas (Nick) Norgan was editor of the Annals of Human Biology from 1995-2005. His academic background was in human nutrition in which he originally studied energy balance amongst the indigenous peoples of Papua New Guinea for his Doctoral research. He became an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor/Reader of Human Biology in the Department of Human Sciences at Loughborough University from 1972 until his untimely death in 2006. His broad knowledge and expertise in human biology did much to enthuse generations of students and directly benefitted this journal and the Society for the Study of Human Biology.
In recognition of his contribution to the Journal and to human biology in general, the Nick Norgan Award annually acknowledges the best paper from a number of high-impact research papers published in the previous year. Papers are evaluated and voted for by the Editorial Board and the winner is selected based on the following criteria:
1. Originality of work and potential to make impact in the field.
2. Importance of the research question.
3. Quality/sophistication of data analysis.
4. Interpretation of the results.
5. Quality of presentation.
The award is sponsored by Taylor and Francis and a cash prize is awarded to the lead author.
