The International Journal of Pediatric Obesity is a new, peer-reviewed, quarterly journal devoted to research into obesity during childhood and adolescence. The topic is currently at the centre of intense interest in the scientific community, and is of increasing concern to health policy-makers and the public at large.

The aim of the International Journal of Pediatric Obesity is to rapidly establish itself as the leading journal for high quality papers including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Genetic, molecular, biochemical and physiological aspects of obesity – basic, applied and clinical studies
  • Metabolic consequences of child and adolescent obesity
  • Epidemiological and population-based studies of child and adolescent overweight and obesity
  • Measurement and diagnostic issues in assessing child and adolescent adiposity, physical activity and nutrition
  • Clinical management of overweight and obese children and adolescents
  • Co-morbidities linked to child and adolescent obesity – mechanisms, assessment, and treatment
  • Life-cycle factors eg familial, intrauterine and developmental aspects of child and adolescent obesity
  • Nutrition security and the "double burden" of obesity and malnutrition
  • Health promotion strategies around the issues of obesity, nutrition and physical activity in children and adolescents
  • Community and public health measures to prevent overweight and obesity in children and adolescents

International Journal of Pediatric Obesity is available in both print and online versions. The journal also publishes supplements in the same style and layout as that of a regular issue of the journal. Supplements may be commercial or non-commercial. The journal is owned by the International Association for the Study of Obesity, a not-for-profit charitable body linking over 50 regional and national associations with over 10,000 professional members in scientific, medical and research organisations.

Abstracting and indexing

We are pleased to announce that the International Journal of Pediatric Obesity was in April 2007 accepted for coverage by Thomson Scientific, thereby being able to obtain an Impact Factor.

Journal content from volume 1: 2006, issue 1 will be included in the following products and services; Science Citation Index Expanded (also known as SciSearch); Current Contents/Clinical Medicine; Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition.

The journal is also currently indexed/abstracted in Index Medicus/MEDLINE and PsycINFO.
