Cogent Geoscience is a fully peer-reviewed, open access journal with a mission to help researchers communicate with a global audience and interact with expert scientists from across the geoscience community and beyond.

Cogent Geoscience considers original research and review articles in all branches of geoscience, including but not limited to:

  • Atmospheric sciences (atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric physics, climatology, meteorology, paleoclimatology)
  • Geoinformatics (geographic information systems, global positioning systems, geodesy, cartography)
  • Glaciology
  • Hydrology
  • Limnology
  • Oceanography
  • Remote Sensing
  • Solid earth sciences (geochemistry, geodynamics, geology, geomorphology, geophysics, mineralogy, palaeontology, petrology, sedimentology, seismology, soil science, tectonics, volcanology)
  • Space & planetary sciences (celestial mechanics, cosmochemistry, planetary astronomy, planetary geology)

The journal also considers submissions featuring original, substantive descriptions of research, computing or analytical methods, and computational mathematical developments that could be applied across multiple fields of earth science.

Cogent Geoscience takes an objective and constructive approach to peer review, with editorial teams evaluating work based on its methodological soundness and scientific relevance rather than a perceived level of future importance. A host of post-publication metrics will indicate the ongoing impact of each individual article.
