About this journal

Aims and scope

African and Black Diaspora is a multi-disciplinary peer-reviewed international journal that seeks to broaden and deepen our understanding of the lived experiences of people of African descent across the globe by publishing theoretically and historically informed as well as empirically grounded works in the social sciences and humanities that are intellectually challenging and illuminating.

The aim of the journal is to advance the analytical and interrogative discourse that constitutes the distinctive field of African diaspora studies in the production of knowledge by focusing on issues such as power, knowledge, gender, race and other forms of social identity. It seeks to encourage the study of the African diaspora through an inter-disciplinary and comparative framework that illuminates the state of the broad field in critical ways.

The journal publishes research articles, commentaries and book reviews twice a year with a mix of regular and special theme issues. Individuals who are interested to Guest Edit special issues should directly contact the Editors.

Peer Review Statement

All research articles are subject to a rigorous peer review process, based on initial Editor screening and double anonymous refereeing by a minimum of two external specialist referees. Editorials, introductions, book reviews, poetry and prose are assessed by the Editors but are not externally peer reviewed.
