Aims and scope

Merger Announcement

Education, Communication & Information (ECi) is a major new journal dedicated to exploring the interaction of innovations in educational theory, practice and technologies. It will feature international research, theoretical debates, and analyses of effective practices. The Editors encourage critical and comparative analyses including paradigms and methodologies that cross disciplinary and cultural boundaries. Contributions are welcome from a wide range of educators, including academics, students, teacher educators, policy makers, librarians and teachers from sectors including adult and non-formal education.

Dialogue will address the following sorts of questions of global concern:

  • Is Information and Communications Technology (ICT) changing views of knowledge, learning and pedagogy?
  • What do new theories of education and curriculum imply for the design of educational technology?
  • What do we know about forming and sustaining learning communities?
  • How are these ideas influenced by communications technology in different parts of the world?
  • How do cultural, linguistic, philosophical and technical variables influence the development and integration of educational technology?
  • How does ICT influence conceptions of orality, literacy, and other modes of meaning making?
  • How will ICT affect the use of paper-based texts, and notions of copyright, authorship and censorship?
  • What are the implications for education?
  • Will ICT promote or inhibit equality in education and access to information, in terms of gender, ethnicity, disability and geographic location?
  • What are the issues for educators?

Special Features:
In addition to major articles ECi includes updates of current trends, major reports, initiatives and research publications. There are reviews of online publications, websites, CD-ROMs and books. Following the first year of publication there will also be annual guest-edited, themed issues.
