About this journal

Aims and scope

The International Journal of Philosophical Studies (IJPS) is a renowned journal publishing outstanding research addressing key contemporary philosophical problems. The journal is not constrained by specific traditions, but rather welcomes submissions that further philosophical knowledge across an array of areas including but not limited to phenomenology, philosophy of mind and action, philosophy of language, history of philosophy, social epistemology, philosophy of race, philosophy of gender, ethics, and aesthetics. We welcome articles that contribute new positions to existing debates or generate new avenues of exchange.

Founded in 1993 the IJPS has come to occupy a significant place in the philosophical landscape as home to the work of some of the world's leading thinkers such as Donald Davidson, Charles Taylor, Dan Zahavi, Elizabeth Anderson, Hilary Putnam, Sara Heinamaa, Steven Crowell and many more, addressing some of the most important philosophical debates.

IJPS also publishes annual special issues devoted to key thematic areas or to critical engagements with contemporary philosophers of note. We welcome proposals for thematic special issues from prospective guest editors.

The IJPS runs an annual essay prize on various themes. Previous topics and prize winners can be found here.

Through its Discussion section, the International Journal of Philosophical Studies provides a lively forum for exchange of ideas and encourages dialogue and mutual comprehension across all philosophical traditions. The journal contains an extensive book review section, including regular book symposia. It also provides Critical Notices which review major books or themes in depth.

IJPS is listed in the Thomson Reuters Arts & Humanities Citation Index®

International Journal of Philosophical Studies gratefully acknowledges the support of the National University of Ireland's Scholarly Publication Grant.

Peer Review Policy:

Articles published in General Issues of the journal, except for occasional specially invited pieces, have undergone peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by two anonymous referees. Some articles published in Special Issues of the journal are also on invitation. Where a call for papers is issued for Special Issues, submissions passed for review by the Issue Editor are subject to the same review process as submissions to General Issues.

23% of articles that proceed to peer review are accepted by the IJPS
