About this journal

Aims and scope

Australian Journal of Earth Sciences publishes peer-reviewed research papers as well as significant review articles of general interest to geoscientists. The Journal covers the whole field of earth science including basin studies, regional geophysical studies and metallogeny. There is usually a thematic issue each year featuring a selection of papers on a particular area of earth science. Shorter papers are encouraged and are given priority in publication. Critical discussion of recently published papers is also encouraged.

Peer review policy

All published papers in this journal have undergone rigorous review by at least two referees and are also peer-reviewed before submission.

Society information

The objectives of the Geological Society of Australia are to promote, advance and support the earth sciences within the scientific and wider communities. Key strategies to achieve these objectives include:

  • Facilitating communication in the earth sciences
  • Influencing government decisions, particularly relating to earth science research and teaching
  • Encouraging and promoting public awareness of the importance and relevance of the earth sciences in Australia
  • Catering for a diversity of members

The GSA was established in 1952 as a learned, non-profit organisation. It has a National Executive and Divisional Committees in each State and Territory.

The Divisions hold regular monthly meetings and organise special conferences as well as conduct occasional field trips. Thirteen Specialist Groups cater for members in different sectors of the earth sciences. These groups produce their own newsletters as well as organise conferences and field trips.

Members of the GSA are entitled to receive the journal as part of their annual society membership, and are eligible to a 10% discount on related Taylor & Francis books and a 50% discounted rate off print subscriptions to related Taylor & Francis journals.
