About this journal

Aims and scope

The European Journal of Phycology is an important focus for the activities of algal researchers all over the world. The Editors-in-Chief are assisted by an international team of Associate Editors who are experts in the following fields: macroalgal ecology, microalgal ecology, physiology and biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, macroalgal and microalgal systematics, applied phycology and biotechnology. The European Journal of Phycology publishes papers on all aspects of algae, including cyanobacteria. Articles may be in the form of primary research papers and reviews of topical subjects.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editors, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is single anonymized and submission is online via ScholarOne Manuscripts. There are no page charges. Benefits of publication include opportunities for free publication of colour plates.

The journal publishes high quality research and is well cited, with a consistently good Impact Factor.

Open access

European Journal of Phycology is a hybrid open access journal that is part of our Open Select publishing program, giving you the option to publish open access. Publishing open access means that your article will be free to access online immediately on publication, increasing the visibility, readership, and impact of your research.

Why choose open access?

  1. Increase the discoverability and readership of your article
  2. Make an impact and reach new readers, not just those with easy access to a research library
  3. Freely share your work with anyone, anywhere
  4. Comply with funding mandates and meet the requirements of your institution, employer or funder
  5. Rigorous peer review for every open access article

Article Publishing Charges (APC)

If you choose to publish open access in this journal you may be asked to pay an Article Publishing Charge (APC).
