About this journal

Aims and scope

Journal of Dermato-Oncology  is an online, open access, international journal dedicated to advancing our understanding of cutaneous malignancies, including melanomas and non-melanoma skin cancers such as basal-, squamous-, and Merkel- cell carcinomas, and cutaneous skin lymphomas. The journal publishes original research, brief reports, reviews, article commentaries, comments, data notes, editorials, and letters to editor focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cutaneous malignancies.

The overall goal of the  Journal of Dermato-Oncology  aims to provide a platform for researchers, clinicians, dermatologists, oncologists, and other healthcare professionals to disseminate and exchange the latest scientific information, innovative research findings, and evidence-based practices related to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of all types of skin cancer.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

Epidemiology and risk factors:

Research related to the epidemiology of skin cancer, including its incidence, prevalence, and trends across different populations and geographical regions. This also includes the identification and evaluation of risk factors, genetic predisposition, viral infections, organ transplantation, and environmental contributors (such as ultraviolet radiations) to skin cancer development and progression.

Early detection and diagnoses:

Research in early detection techniques, including novel imaging modalities, diagnostic biomarkers, and screening programs. The focus will be on improving accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility of skin cancer diagnosis to facilitate timely interventions.

Molecular mechanisms:

Research into the molecular/cellular mechanisms underlying skin cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis. Papers discussing genetic mutations, signalling pathways, immune responses, and microenvironment interactions are also encouraged.

Novel treatment strategies:

Research in emerging and novel therapeutic approaches or improvement of existing approaches will be considered. This includes surgical interventions, radiation therapy, photodynamic therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and emerging modalities like gene therapies and nanotechnology-based treatments.

Clinical/Translational research:

Research describing clinical trials, outcomes studies, and translational research bridging the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical applications.

Multimodality and combination therapies:

Research into a combination of various treatment options aimed at improving the efficacy and/or decreasing the harmful side effects.

Health disparities:

Research focused on disparities in skin malignancy distribution, presentation, treatment, and survival amongst different populations.

Public health recommendations and guidelines:

Research exploring public health initiatives, policies, and strategies with a goal to preventing skin cancer through awareness campaigns and community engagement.

Journal of Dermato-Oncology  operates a single-blind peer review policy.
