1. Dorans and Holland’s (Citation2000) notion of ‘equitability indices’ to gauge how different equating functions are across sub‐populations could be extended to other inferences such as consequences for measuring trends, evaluating programmes, and selecting students to tell us how much trouble we would get into by using a common matching function for different purposes and in different contexts.
