Anita LaidlawUniversity of St Andrews, UK; ANITA LAIDLAW, PhD, is currently a Senior Teaching Fellow and Convenor of communication skills at the Medical School, University of St Andrews, UK. She is deputy module co-ordinator for a second year module and module co-ordinator for a Health Psychology MSc module. She became interested in medical education in 2005 when she joined the Health Psychology group at the Medical School. Her current research interests are psychological and cognitive factors affecting communication and pedagogy.

Jim AitonUniversity of St Andrews, UK; JIM AITON, PhD, is a senior lecturer and co-organiser of the Foundations of Medicine modules in the Medical School at the University of St Andrews. His main teaching responsibilities include the delivery of short courses on the molecular physiology of membrane transport, muscle physiology, gastro-intestinal physiology and an introduction to evidence-based medicine. He also works with honours students to develop their skills in critical analysis and the scientific method. He is interested in developing innovative methods to assess students’ ability to interpret scientific data.

Julie StruthersUniversity of St Andrews, UK; JULIE STRUTHERS, MSc Advanced Learning Technology, is a Learning Technology Consultant at the Medical School, University of St Andrews, UK. As well as promoting the use of technology to enhance learning, she has a keen interest in education. She plays a key role in the planning, implementation and assessment of the medical students’ ePortfolio and in particular, reflective writing. In 2008, she was the project director and main author of the QAA enhancement theme topic on Research-Teaching Linkages: Enhancing graduate attributes in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine.

Simon GuildUniversity of St Andrews, UK; SIMON GUILD, PhD, is Deputy Head of School and Director of Teaching at the School of Medicine, at the University of St. Andrews and has responsibility for all aspects of the undergraduate medical programme. His medical education interests lie in curriculum design with a particular focus on methodologies to provide a sound grounding in the scientific basis of medical practice and the development of research skills. He is a pharmacologist with a scientific research interests in cell signalling and endocrinology.Correspondence[email protected]
