Cardiovascular Research and Arrival of Circadian Medicine
Chronobiology International is the expert journal of biological and medical rhythm research. We are excited to present this special collection of articles focused on understanding the relationship between biological rhythms and cardiovascular disease – our leading cause of death. This Special Series “Cardiovascular Research and Arrival of Circadian Medicine” began with an NIH workshop held in Bethesda MD in 2019 aimed at identifying the key questions and novel opportunities for circadian medicine therapies to prevent sudden cardiac death. We subsequently collaborated with Dr. Mike Smolensky (Editor-in-Chief 1984–2021) and Dr. Roberto Refinetti (Editor-in-Chief from 2021) to bring together circadian-cardiovascular experts from around the world to generate a series of articles that present new original research, perspectives, meta-analysis, and review articles on a wide variety of cardiovascular diseases of critical importance to human health. With this special series we advance the latest frontiers in basic chronobiology research and translational applications to clinical cardiology. This research has significant promise to improve outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease, leading to longer and healthier lives.
