The EJGP Collection on Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement

Created 23 May 2024| Updated 30 May 2024 | 10 articles

Public engagement is a moral imperative for conducting research for a growing number of researchers, funders, and patient organisations in Europe since it can support high-quality, relevant, and impactful primary care research that improves primary healthcare services and benefits patients. However, public engagement is not always easy. There is much variability in how researchers conceptualise and embrace patient involvement and engagement. Many researchers are unfamiliar with the value of public engagement in research. In addition, some may lack the knowledge and skills to engage with the public meaningfully and effectively. We hope this Collection will encourage researchers to consider the role and potential benefit to research that collaborating with the public provides. The EJGP ‘Series on Public Engagement with Research’ provides practical steps to address challenges faced when collaborating with the public. As such, the articles in the series form the core publications of this Collection. The Collection is and will be supplemented with old and new EJGP articles on this subject.
