Journal overview

Political Research Exchange (PRX) offers a dynamic platform to advance research, innovation and debate across the breadth of political science. It welcomes significant theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions from all fields, including comparative politics, international politics / international relations, political communication, political sociology, political thought, public administration, and interdisciplinary work with a predominantly political dimension.

The journal, published online with Gold Open Access and swift publication times, leverages the digital format to deepen and enrich scholarly communication. With significant subsidies on the normal up front costs of Open Access, PRX signals a commitment of the ECPR as a scholarly association to forging a cogent path for the research community at this crucial juncture when academic publishing is becoming fundamentally transformed.

PRX builds on four pillars:

Quality

The journal promotes original research of the highest standards in terms of craftmanship and contribution. It maintains corresponding standards of quality control, drawing on the expertise of an international group of associate editors representing the scope and breadth of the ECPR through its Standing Groups and implementing a policy of triple anonymized external peer review.

Depth

The journal supports thorough, transparent and sustainable scholarship. Editorial evaluation and independent peer review of submissions combined with a state-of-the-art online platform is tailored to underpin rigorous political analysis in all its variety. The platform enables embedded evidence (including video, audio and data visualisation), active linking to datasets, code, and supplementary materials, and ensures that articles and supplementary content remain available in an enduring manner.

Accessibility

The journal endorses the spirit of accessible and fair scholarship. The ECPR subsidises the author-side publication costs often associated with Open Access (with deep discounts for its affiliate members) to ensure the availability of quality research and publication channels irrespective of funding. In keeping with the broader stance, the journal works actively to welcome and acknowledge contributions across gender, generations and geographies.

Exchange

The journal seeks to serve as a platform for synergy and exchange across and beyond the study of politics. To this end, it prioritises articles that speak to key issues and across sub-fields as well as research that engages those working in other sectors such as government, politics, the media, and the economy. Rapid online publication facilitates timely dissemination, and its blog offers a forum for further diffusion, intervention and debate, increasing the impact of political science research.

All articles will be made freely and permanently available online through gold open access publication.

Waivers and discounts on the APC are available to support researchers in developing and emerging regions unable to pay. Please consult our author guidance here for more information.
