Plant Astrobiology is an emerging field of research studying plant life in space environments. Observing and defining how plants react and adapt to stress conditions in the space environment is crucial to understanding how to cultivate plants in space for human nutrition, life support, and mental/body wellbeing.

This Article Collection aims to cover but is not limited to the following topics:

  • Plant responses to reduced gravity, reduced pressure, and artificial light conditions

  • Cultivation of plants in Bioregenerative Life Support Systems in space (BLSS)

  • Physiological responses of plants to spaceflight conditions

  • Applications of plants in space

  • Space greenhouses and production of food and oxygen

  • Plant phytochemical production in space environments

  • Use of Remote sensing and biosensing technology in the space environment

All manuscripts submitted to this Article Collection underwent desk assessment and peer-review as part of our standard editorial process. The Guest Advisors were not involved in peer-reviewing manuscripts unless they were an existing member of the Journal of Plant Interaction's Editorial Board.
